Loyal Dog Won’t Forget His Best Friend

Tonka the dog and Sarah the cat were best friends and took care of each other. Julie Nelson shared the story behind their special relationship with DogHeirs and wrote:

“Tonka is 9 ½ years old, and has the sweetest, most gentle soul. Tonka and Sarah became best friends shortly after we got him in 2004.”

“They loved to play and chase each other around the house. Tonka was always so gentle while playing with her, like he knew she was more fragile than him.”

“After they would play, Sarah would always groom Tonka by licking him all over his face and head, then they would fall asleep together, with their heads touching. It was the sweetest thing!”

“Sarah died on November 15th 2013, at the age of 15 ½. After Sarah died, Tonka started sleeping with his nose snuggled in her kitty bed. I’m pretty sure he can smell her on it! It’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.”
