German shepherd Stays 23 Days Next to Deceased Owner

A story from a few years back about one pup's love for its owner ...

Talero is a German shepherd who loyally stayed next to his owner, Bernardo Leónidas Quirós, for 23 days, after Quirós d.i.e.d in a snow storm in Argentina.

In mid July, Quirós took his wife, two children, and Talero on a family trip to visit his brother in the southern region of Argentina, but on the way there, their car broke down on low traffic road.

When this happened, Quirós decided to exit the car taking along his dog Talero in search of help. However, there was a heavy snow storm in the area and reports say Quirós probably got disoriented and lost in the storm.

Quirós’s body was found frozen 23 days later in Alto Río Senguer, Patagonia, Argentina. The discovery was made by a family member who recognized the German shepherd standing near the body.

“Quirós’s body was found under a bush thanks to his loyal dog that remained next to his owner and when the rescue unit was nearby, the dog came forward,” said one of the rescuers.

Authorities said the body shown no signs of violence. They concluded Quirós d.i.e.d from exposure to the cold elements and frostbite.

There were signs that Talero tried keeping his owner warm by laying near his feet, torso and head. Quirós’s family, who had remained in the car, was found days after the car broke down. All are in good health.
